Introducing myself (at last)

I've been ignoring this blog for a while as I've concentrated on the discussion groups, some beta testing and the wiki.

However, it occurs to me that there is some significant misunderstanding among some members of the discussion group about who I am and more importantly, who I am not.

  • I am not a member of the team that develops DroidScript
  • I am not a person with any influence over how DroidScript will be developed in the future
  • I am not an experienced user of JavaScript
  • I am not a DroidScript consultant (paid or otherwise)
The above facts may come as a disappointment to several people who send me private emails on a frequent basis.

  • I am a beta tester of DroidScript
  • I am a great admirer of DroidScript
  • I am old enough (61) to have quite a bit of experience in programming, using lots of languages and environments
  • I discovered DroidScript in mid July 2014
  • I had previously done a little client-side forms validation on websites in JavaScript
  • When I found DroidScript I got stuck in and tried to learn the app and JavaScript in my spare time (I also work full-time)
  • I enjoy showing off my knowledge and hopefully helping people with less experience
I like working on public forums and am quite happy to try and answer as many questions as I can.

I am not so fond of one-to-one communication with inexperienced users. I prefer to discuss problems in the open. That has a number of advantages

  • Lots of people may learn from the discussion
  • I don't have to repeat myself if a question is asked multiple times
  • Other people who may know much more than I do about a specific subject can give better advice or correct me if I am wrong
I do host the community wiki on a hosted website which I already happened to have. I hope that, while the developers are overstretched, creating a wonderful product, the wiki will become a good source of DroidScript documentation.

This will take time.

I do not, however consider this to be my wiki. I am pleased to see that it is beginning to receive quite a few contributions from other DroidScript users.
